Irish Times (Apr 13, 09:11 AM) Possible links between heart disease and HRT continue to be debated and assessed, leading, says Dublin GP Dr Claire McNicholas, to a generally more conservative approach than before.
"At present, HRT is mainly prescribed short term for the relief of physical symptoms of menopause such as hot flushes.
"Various studies would point to the need for being more cautious than in the past when prescribing HRT to women with risk factors for heart disease.
"The best advice is for each woman to consult her GP who will deal on a case-by-case basis. Everyone is different, and the decision taken would be based on health, lifestyle and, above all, family history."
